Brianna Hearth
Brianna Hearth
Brianna Hearth is experienced in working with English Language Learners and supporting them in their efforts to overcome their trauma to live thriving lives. Her dedication to mental health in education and educational equity has been evident throughout her career. After graduating from The American University with a degree in Law and Society, she became deeply involved in social justice efforts, focusing on teaching at-risk pre-K students literacy skills. Her commitment to at-risk youth deepened during her service with AmeriCorps' Teach For America (TFA), where she worked with English Language Learners at an alternative charter school in Springfield, MA. It was here that Brianna noticed the significant mental health challenges faced by many ELL students, particularly newcomers with limited English proficiency, as they navigated both language barriers and the pressures of adjusting to a new environment. Witnessing these struggles firsthand fueled her passion for advocating for both educational equity and mental health awareness.
While pursuing her Master of Arts in Education, Curriculum, and Teaching, Brianna focused on English as a Second Language, driven by a desire to bridge gaps for underserved students. Her work continued at a boarding school in Pennsburg, PA, where she expanded her fight for equity. Transitioning to EDSI as a Youth Coordinator, Brianna's leadership flourished as she supported at-risk youth in their educational and career journeys.
As Youth Team Lead, Brianna recognized the critical mental health challenges many young adults faced, leading her to collaborate with vocational rehabilitation services and EDSI’s Behavioral Health department to implement mental health initiatives, including a youth mental health survey. Realizing the importance of deeper mental health expertise, Brianna earned her Mental Health First Aid certification from the University of North Carolina’s School of Social Work.
Now a member of EDSI’s Innovative Learning Solutions team, Brianna continues her mission of promoting mental health awareness and educational equity. She is a certified Professional Life Coach through Continuing Professional Development (CPD). This course covers a wide range of topics essential to effective coaching, including building rapport with clients, setting actionable goals, and fostering personal growth. It also equips learners with practical tools to address various challenges, from stress management to improving emotional well-being. This certification will further expand Brianna's ability to support at-risk individuals by offering them tailored coaching that promotes their academic success and mental health, as she continues to advocate for their overall well-being.
